A great customer named Lenny has a serious collections of Ukes that he brings to us for some regular TLC and maintenance. Today we are going to talk about this little gem here:
This is called a Solid body Tenor Ukulele by RISA Musical Instruments in Germany. The tiny thing is actually an electric uke! The Solid Tenor is the high-end tenor with a scale of 17” (432mm). It in made of beautiful American walnut with pearloid block inlays with banjo style geared tuners!
What is unique about the instrument, aside from the body, is the transducer that is setup to electrify the instrument. The steel bar acts as the bridge and as a “saddle pickup” for the best tone. The vibrations are solid and the pickup works very well. Clear and fluid.
No string trees or standard nut here. The strings are fed through the headless head stock for a very pleasing ascetic. Nice and large block pearloid fret markers. This has a great feel even if you don’t play regularly.
There are pre-installed strap buttons, even though this instrument weighs less than 2 lbs! But where do you plug the 1/4″ cable?
Oh…there it is. The instrument is so small we actually had to look for this! It is a passive system with no external controls for volume or tone. It really could use it, but where would the controls actually go?
We appreciate Lenny bringing this little terror out to us to see. It truly is something to hear AND play. Be sure to check out the latest Ukulele and ukulele accessories at Ant Hill Music! And now this:
