A wonderful lady, Maxine, brought this in for some work on her electronics. They were not working at full capacity. This guitar is a true beauty! It has mostly all original parts on the instrument. Notice the pickup near the neck.
The pickguard is most likely a 3rd party add on, but still looks good even after many decades of playing. Here are some close ups while being worked on:
Binding and pearloid is staring to “relic” appropriately after so many years. Original tuners still functional and intact despite what they look like. They turn well even today just as Kluson tuners should be.
The guitar was set up with flat wound strings, as the client is a frequent jazz performer. She is quite the player.
This was the same type of guitar that John Lennon and George Harrison from the Beatles played.
Maxine’s guitar is valued around $5-7,000 depending on condition and year. We saw a ’58 going for about $17K!
It just goes to show you that when you learn and work hard on your skills with a reliable instrument, that instrument may be with you for many years (almost 50 years). We hope that she loves the work we have done so we can get her playing again.
