Line 6 is known for some amazing products. In 1996, the first digital modeling guitar amplifier known as the AxSys 212, was the first of many greats from this company. Their digital modeling technology is some of the best in the industry and there is no exception with the Amplifi 150. This is one high-performance amp and we will go over its many features today.
Lets start with speakers. The Amplifi is loaded with an innovative 5 speaker stereo design that delivers the full sonic spectrum in a unique mix of wet/dry tone. By amplifying the dry and wet parts of your tone independently, AMPLIFi transmits every aspect of your tone in awesome detail with crystal clean highs and smooth as butter lows. With 2 tweeters, 2 mid frequency drivers and a customized 12-inch Celestion for lows, this will reproduce your tone consistently at any volume. At 150 watts, this thing can deliver on stage, studio, or the bedroom (no pun intended).
“Awesome Stereo Bro”
But why would an amp like this need more than one speaker? The answer is simple: This amp is also a 3-way Stereo System. You can play music directly into the 1/8 inch stereo jack, but the amp features bluetooth so you can play any device with bluetooth connectivity. Imagine playing Blue Oyster Cult on your amp and jamming along with the actual song. You could play back songs that you recorded on you smart phone or laptop wirelessly on the same amp that you have practiced with for hours. It really is a great tool for rehearsal or even for parties! It’s the ultimate streaming music system for guitarist. Bluetooth audio streaming is compatible with:
- iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, iPad (3rd and 4th generation), iPad 2, iPad mini and iPod touch (5th generation)
- Android devices
Amplifi Remote for iOS 7
Can an amp this good sounding have any more features? Yes. If you are an owner of any of Apple’s iOS Devices running iOS 7, The AMPLIFi Remote app introduces a whole new world of possibilities. Create and control every aspect of your amp and tones wirelessly. Connect to the cloud and share tones with hundreds of thousands of users with an online community of guitarists. With nearly 200 legendary guitar amps and the use of 8 simultaneous effects, you will have access to all the sounds you will ever need. The innovative tone-matching technology takes the guesswork of dialing favorite artist tones. Select any song in your music library, and AMPLIFi automatically provides matching tone selections via the cloud. This amp is only compatible with:
- iPod touch (5th generation),
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 5c
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 4s
- iPhone 4
- iPad (3rd and 4th generation)
- iPad 2 and iPad mini.
The Amp itself
The Amplifi does not have many inputs. There is one ¼“ jack and one ¼” headphone out. No effects loops for outboard effects. It’s pretty plain and simple. There is a USB input, but Line 6 has no plans for it as of now, so it is sort of useless till they figure something to do with it. For many simplicity is great, but for some wanting to do more, this can be a real bummer. Simple self explanatory knobs to set EQ. You can control the amp with Line 6 FBV MkII Foot Controllers (not included) for real stomp box control. The tap button function is great for syncing delay effects in real time.
Playing with this amp is a fun experience. Chorus and reverb shimmer like never before, while overdrive and distortion pack an extra punch. Mixing playback and guitar tone is easy. Push down the main volume knob and you control of either the playback or guitar. The colored LED meter let you know what controls what. It’s that simple. You control most of your tones with an iOS device, but without one of these devices, the tone control can be lacking. Playable, but lacking. There are only 4 on-board presets (access unlimited presets via app). Something to consider and probably the biggest upset if you do not own an iOS device. The amp is also available in a smaller 75Watt version. If you are interested in buying one, it is available at Ant Hill Music.
