Hey Guys! Today’s article will be on how to install a humbucker pickup in your guitar. There are many things to consider when tackling this project:
- What type/brand (The kind of sound you are looking for)
- Output of pickup (Higher ohm rating, higher output)
- The dimensions (Not all pickups are the same profiles)
- Humbucker Pole spacing (F or Fender 25 1/2″ scale length , Gibson 24 3/4″ scale length)
These are some of the things to think about even before purchasing of the pickup hardware. Like we will mention on our vid….be a boss and research your potential project thoroughly.
With that said in mind, no one pickup is ever the same. This includes the wiring of the pickup itself. We thought it would be best to include a chart of all the different wiring’s of the most popular manufacturers:
Notice every wiring color is different and no two are the same. Be sure to refer to your owners manual before, during, and after install to be sure you have wired this correctly. So now that we got that out of the way lets let Rich help finish the project:
Should you get stuck or find that the guitar is not working at it best, we recommend bringing the instrument to a local guitar repair shop. We here at Ant Hill Music are here as a resource and should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. As always play well and play on!
